On the night of the Resurrection, just before midnight, churches are filled with light from the candles held by both young and old.

Especially in the most crowded churches, candles always require caution, as one of the most common minor accidents is melted wax dripping, which can cause small burns on the hands.

No matter how often we repeat “hold your candle straight” or “be careful,” it is often not enough.

However, there is a simple tip that can save you from this inconvenience. The solution lies in a material found in almost every kitchen: salt.

You will need:

  • water

  • salt

  • a small basin

What you need to do:

Fill a basin with water and add a generous amount of salt. Stir well and place the candles inside. Leave them in the solution for several hours and take them out early in the afternoon so they have time to dry.

Salt affects the composition of the wax, so when the candle is lit, it burns more evenly and does not drip.

At the same time, it helps the candle last longer, proving once again that salt is a highly versatile material with many practical uses in everyday life.
